Aria Spinelli

Aria Spinelli (New York, 1981) is an independent curator based in Milan. She holds a BA in Contemporary Art History from La Sapienza University of Rome and a MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies from NABA – New Academy of Fine Arts (Milan, Italy). She is cofounder of collective Radical Intention, which seeks to challenge the boundaries of art presentation and implement the discourse around contemporary art production and distribution. She is curator at Isola Art Center. She conducted curatorial residencies at Incheon Art Platform (Incheon, South Korea) Gwangju Biennale Foundation (Gwangju, South Korea); Art and Cultural Studies Laboratory (Yerevan, Armenia), MACBA – Museum of Contemporary Art, Barcelona (Spain). She collaborates with online art magazine such as UnDo.net and TeKnemedia. Her curatorial methodology deals with the relationship between art and politics, creating exhibition platforms that facilitate discussion and collaboration. Her research is focused on how political emergencies and social conflict are translated into art forms, how they interact with the construction of alternative realities.
